WE LOVE PEANUT BUTTER!!!!!!!!!!

Name Yarn...My name is Mrs. Davis and I like the beach!

The first week of school we do lots of activities to learn the names of our new friends. The name yarn is so much fun. The teacher is the anchor and starts the game. "My name is Mrs. Davis and I love the beach." Holding the end of the yarn the teacher tosses it to a student. The student says the same thing and holds the yarn while tossing the ball to another friend. After ALL students have had a turn it looks like a HUGE spiderweb in the middle of the carpet.

Bucket Fillers...NOT DIPPERS

Each child has an individual bucket and the students work hard to earn 5 straws for an extra trip to the treasure box. Our class bucket is used for the days that everyone stays on super star. They earn a fish for all super star days. When the class earns 5 fish they receive a class reward.

Center Time Fun

Learning about our classroom and having the chance to explore the different centers were the highlights of our first week. Their favorite center, science! They love our pet turtles and our hamster. Second of course was computers.

Team Leaders...a teacher's best friend!

Team Leaders are an important part of our day. This week we watched a team leader video and learned the 5 main attributes of being a good team leader. This week our team leaders are Mia, Cheyenne and Lily. Today they learned how to delegate different jobs to other team members like passing out pencils, papers, etc... They also learned how to use a smart device and scan a QR code for directions on how to complete the station activity.  The students are working well together and learning quickly it takes a TEAM to survive in kindergarten. Enjoy the video of a team leader in action, how they used the QR code and then explained how to do the activity, ALL without the teacher's help.

It's a "Tooty Ta" kind of day!

What is a kindergarten day without doing the "Tooty Ta"? If your not familiar with Dr. Jean she is an amazing children's artist. She keeps the children entertained while teaching valuable early childhood skills through song and movement. WE LOVE THE "TOOTY TA" We think you will as well.

How to keep up with our blog?

Are you a blog stalker? WELL...I sure hope my kindergarten parents are! I want you to know what is going on in our classroom! If I spend this much time on our blog I want it to be beneficial to my parents and fellow teachers.  SO PLEASE take the time to sign up to be a follower AND to receive updates by email when a new post is available. I want my followers list to really grow this year! Parents, that also means getting the grandparents involved in our class. Give them our new blog address and encourage them to sign up for the updates and to be a follower of our blog. :)

We are Jammin' in Our Jungle

Two days into the school year and we are having a blast! We hope you enjoy the pictures and our video of the "Tooty Ta".
Here are a few pictures. To view the entire album click on the Picasa Photostream to the left, View My Gallery. I will be uploading pictures to that gallery all year. :) Also don't forget to click on the tabs at the top of the blog. I will add post to those pages as well.

It's Back to School

Well tomorrow is my first day back to work! :) We will be getting our new Mac Pros tomorrow! SO excited about our new technology! :) Our new technology adventure this year, QR Codes or Quick Response Codes. So far so good! :) Glad I have some friends joining the journey. Erin Borchard in first grade is all about this new technology. I have others ready to jump in feet first! :) So far I created my business card that included QR codes linking my parents to the OES website, our class blog, my facebook page and my school email. Now to train my parents on how to use it! I also spent time creating codes linked to songs. I used songs like Humpty Dumpty and posted it by my stuffed Humpty Dumpty and the book that goes with it.  I put "Loose Tooth" by Dr. Jean by our tooth graph and the birthday song by our birthday chart.  Also a QR code for Macarena Months and Days of the week songs to go with our calendar. Visit our classroom and the first QR code you will see is a vocal QR code where I explain what to do when visiting our classroom! Scan the QR code below to hear this voice welcome.  Look for many post on how we are going to use QR codes in our room this year. We are moving ahead in kindergarten! To all my teacher friends have a blessed school year!
